Re: Collapse ??!

"* The cloaking barrier over the glittering gulch? Not possible by today’s technology as I know it." From what I read of it, it sounded more like a giant hologram projector. The plane flew straight through the projection thinking she was going to hit ground, then looked again and saw the r...

Re: Free will versus Determinism

One day, when the cosmos align, mousetraps will spawn in front of everyone on the planet and we will walk into them, and it will be the free willed robots' fault.

Re: Free will versus Determinism

If chemicals in your brain have no effect on free will, then they have no effect on free will. Saying that they cannot force you to do things implies that they cannot force you not to do things either. When I say something is blue, do I also have to say: It is not red, it is not green, it is not ye...

Re: Free will versus Determinism

I was just trying to get at the fact that whatever happens happens, and technically could not have happened any other way. Being predictable doesn't mean it's an "illusion." You can predict that if someone put a giant mousetrap outside my home and baited it with cheese, I probably wouldn'...

Re: Everyday things

I don't know, right now im kinda of stuck in a rut, so to speak. I have been going to school on and off for 2 years, not really sure about what to do. I have changed my mind about what to major in more times that I can count, so far I have just done pre reqs. I haven't been looking for any other job...

Everyday things

So the other day i thought of a question inspired by something that happened to me at work. I'm curious about what a purely objective standpoint is, because, while I claim to know a good amount about it, I am not intimately familiar with all aspects of it. I was on my break and went to one of my usu...

Re: EBANK channel chat about philosophy and "Human Nature"

Correct me if I am wrong Airiek, but I think much, of not all, of what Petyr is saying is derived from John Galt's speech in Atlas Shrugged, and/or other books Ayn Rand has written on the subject of free will. But that speech is like the cornerstone of nearly all of her ideas. And Petyr, I think you...

Re: This section should really be renamed to "Introductions"

That's usually how it goes, the book is better than the movie.

Re: EBANK channel chat about philosophy and "Human Nature"

That just got dumber and dumber toward the end. But I have to say i believe that (unless in quantum physics where the laws of physics are skewed/ work in a different way), we really dont have free will, because if every single variable is accounted for, there is only one outcome. The fact that the ...

Re: This section should really be renamed to "Introductions"

No I haven't read the book, I have only seen the movie, which I thought was great. But btw, the last I heard (which was a few years ago) about the Grand Unification Theory (GUT), the solution is starting to narrow down to about 42. Haven't heard any more about that for awhile, so I dunno if it was j...

Re: Is Objectivism Right for Eve Online? Yes, it is.

In some sense, role playing is a projection of yourself. However, the role that you are playing can be equally judged by the morals that role consists of, or lack thereof, which is what changes things up and makes them more interesting at times. Most people role play as something different but still...

Re: EBANK channel chat about philosophy and "Human Nature"

That looks fairly reminiscent of many convos I have had regarding "human nature" in and out of games. Theres always the troll, most likely an anarchist, another who claims to be an anarchist, someone who shoots down the anarchist and/or the troll, usually some hippies and collectivists, an...

This section should really be renamed to "Introductions"

Hello everyone. I have recently applied to join TTI, and I thought I would give a little more information about myself, maybe start a discussion of some sort. :P I have done a few EVE trial accounts with long gaps in between each one. Never really made a name for myself in EVE anyways, but I was fai...
