Re: string intro

This was good for a laugh, but probably only because I read Kushan's reply right afterwards.

Re: Intros: StormChapel

When you say "the Ayn Rand bit is questionable", to what are you referring?

Methinks this could get interesting.

EDIT:

Wow, sorry should have clarified. When I say interesting I mean amusing to the point of ridiculousness. There we go, cleared that right up.

Re: Composite breakdown

I find this to be incredibly interesting. I didn't have much time to look into it after seeing Rand discuss it the second time she was on Donahue's show, but I'm hoping to get into it at some point. This page describes it decently: http://aynrandlexicon.com/lexicon/art.html

Scandinavian countries in general are beautiful places; It's the pervasive governments that just don't do it for me.

Re: Proof That God Cannot Exist

That's kind of what I was thinking. I've seen people point to studies about gorillas planning an event ahead of time or dogs recognizing when bad things are happening, etc... but the level of reason that is required to even begin a decent conversation isn't even breached.

Thanks, Olek.

Re: Proof That God Cannot Exist

You bring up an interesting point Olek...about whether or not man is the only being capable of being rational. I have been arguing this for quite some time, but when I discussed it a length with my professor of Biology, she vigorously disagreed with me. She pointed to numerous studies citing animals...

Re: Proving a Negative

I think this distinction needs to be made again. Proving a negative is different than proving a positive. One can say that there are no turtles holding us up (the negative assertion). The only way to prove it is to show that there are gravitational forces acting on Earth that determine its position ...

Re: Proving a Negative

This can be reasoned out. The onus of proof (or the burden of proof as redhotrebel mentioned) is upon those asserting a positive. Proving a negative cannot be done, however you can prove the positive. If both exist, this leads to a contradiction. Since contradictions do not exist, anything that resu...

Re: Proving a Negative

Moved this from original thread... There are things that can't be proven but solely because it is a negation does not mean it can't be. Observe: Proposition: There are no even prime numbers greater than than two. This is a sufficiently "negative" statement, yes? Proof: Assume there was an...

Proving a Negative

There is a discussion going on one of the intro threads about proving a negative. I'm going to move it here so we don't distract from that thread's purpose. I'm sure most of you have seen this interview Rand did with Donahue, but it touches on the points that were being talked about in the original ...

Thats my issue with it as well. Too many cases where the person who owns the patent because he was first to file for it and not because he invented it. I'm not sure if someone mentioned this as I haven't worked through the whole thread (late start), but here in the United States Patents are issued ...

Calderac Intro

Give just a brief intro here to introduce myself: I'm a 22 year old guy who's about to graduate (May) from college majoring in biomedical engineering. I just recently started playing the game so I'm still learning as I go but I'm enjoying every minute of it. I looked around at joining a Corporation ...
