Re: Rocket Launchers
In such a discussion it is important to frame the issue correctly. You should not argue that rocket launcers should be allowed, you should argue that rocket launchers should not be forbidden. And you should make the case by what right he thinks he is allowed to use force to stop you from owning a ro...

Re: Atlas Shrugged... The Movie
I think the makers of 'the social network' did a good job of creating a movie that celebrates individuality, creativity, hard work and entrepreneurship. If Atlas Shrugged ever becomes a movie I hope its like this.

If it is my own responsibility to cover my own ears if faced with noise pollution, If it is my own responsibility to cover my own ears if faced with extreme noise pol...

I disagree, I think it should be on the onus of the person bothered by the sound to sound proof their own home. Also "noise pollution" isn't violating peoples property rights, nothing has been infringed on in any meaningful way. What has been damaged? What has been taken? What objective m...

Re: Playing EVE makes you smarter...
Is EVE an action game?
Of course if you are playing games you make become smarter, but the time spent playing games could be spent doing other stuff that would also improve yourself. Opportunity costs and stuff.

I was going to poke fun at pirates, but figured I better wait until I get in. :D How about it's been more than 5 business days and you havent received an ingame email yet :? I wonder why it says 5 'business days'. Do TTI members have more time for EVE when normal people are working and do they have...

this women broke the ABSO law http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/wear/8021185.stm I think even in a free society, this woman could get punished by law. It's a matter of property rights. Does she have the right to make loud noises in her own home or does the neighbour has a right to piece an...

Does it serve the public?
This debate in the Economist really reminded me of Ayn Rand (the part where Jim is riding with Dagny to a debate about Rearden Steel) They are debating whether bankers should be allowed to use financial innovation products. The criterion by which they judge to allow or forbid it, is of course: &quo...

Re: Are environmental regulations bad under all circumstances?
But you don't need regulations to protect property rights. You just need a good court system... Help me get this straight... I've always considered the court system sort of like the referees in a sporting event. They don't make the rules, they only make judgments about any given situation. How do y...

Re: Outside the Law
It is for the rightful owner of the road to decide who can drive where, when and how. Whatever the rightful owner decides that the rules of the roads are, are the just rules. Today, most roads have no rightful owner; they are appropriated by governments or paid with stolen property. Because the poss...

Re: Pascal's Wager
I also see a problem with Pascal's assumption that hell would be infinitely bad. If the utility of going to hell is not minus infinity but some other finite number (it can still be extremely large) then his argument falls apart. Is it possible to have something happen to you that you experience as i...

Re: Are environmental regulations bad under all circumstances?
Regulations are the wrong way to go to protect the environment. The only reason to protect the environment is to protect individual property rights. But you don't need regulations to protect property rights. You just need a good court system where people can try to prove when their property is being...

Re: Is Objectivism Right for Eve Online? Yes, it is.
It's a game, it's a voluntary simulation with given set of rules and mechanics. No force is being initiated when data changes on the screen in front of you. I equivicate EVE to entering a paintball course. A really big, deep, vast, and pretty paintball course. I would agree with this. EVE is a game...

Hello, I'm in the process of filling in an application but I'll quickly introduce myself first. I'm 23 and I'm a Ph.D. student in economics. I was really happy to find an ideological corp. I think it will be an awesome experience to be part of a capitalist paradise in EVE. I've played some MMO games...
