Hi Taggart,
Firstly to introduce myself,
I am 20 year old, male student from London. I am in my second year of studying BSc Mathematics and Finance at City University, London. I started playing EVE about a month ago. On my second day I joined a corp (i'd prefer not to mention which for now). I was the second member to join. Since then myself and the CEO have managed to build the corp into a solid industrial with 33 members (only about 20 - 25 active rest are old or alt accounts). I have currently retired the from the corp and have become the non-excutive chairman (if the vote passes).
Now my questions are,
1. As I am a finance student I am looking to create a corp that is as true to life as possible (not accounting for types of RL corps, such as partnerships, public and private limited etc), how viable is this in your
opinion?
2. I want to invest and gain investors yet I have not figured out where to find brokers etc, can u help me?
3. I also want to work with gold and equities in game but no luck there (haven't studied equities in RL yet so i don't even know what they are )
4. How close to RL is the game's economy? I started playing mostly because I felt I could practice investing and other corp related things but with a similifed model of RL. Is this the case in your experience?
Finally do you have any tips for a player like me, I know once I get the basics down my corp can become a major player in the EVE world, I just need to know the extent the financial model can be used. I am more interested in making isk on the financial markets than mining and fighting.
Many Thanks

Hi! I'm new to EVE! (well quite new)
The games ecomomy is as close to RL as a game set a few thousands years in the future can be. Shares and Dividends are mostly for show in the game ATM, however thismay change with shiva. You could try to start something with investors but the absense of a legal system has made it so people are very suspecious with people they dont know, and are very carefull with their isk. Untill there is some way to accually sue someone for ripping you off, finding foriegn investors would be impossible IMHO.
Everyone has to have a nemesis, I consider it an honor to be hated so much my name is spoken as a curse. Even then, I am undefeatable because conviction is my greatest weapon. When it comes to war one mans most hated enemy is another’s brother.

Agent, love the name, and thanks for stopping by. dough is right in that trust is your #1 asset in this game. If you have that, finding investors for good investments is easy. I've been told EVE's economy is the closest to RL as any MMO available. As a trader, I can say once you find your niche, it is just like RL in that respect.

I guess that rules out hostile takeovers! Thx for ure advice. A proper legal system would be great. However the whole point of 0.0 space is that u make the rules and laws from what I have seen. Prehaps stock trading would only be possible when you're corp has a high enough standing with one of the major factions. The possibilites avalible fianciallly are great, corps could start banks and credit creation, small corps could take out proper loans with proper interest to get a decent start and U could even have bailiffs that confiscate property when u fail to keep up ure repayments. Still its quite a complicated thing to implement into a game such as EVE. I'm sure its possible tho...
I gather , from the EVE website, they had already considered a player-run in game stock market but thats been delayed to Kali. I hope shares play a greater role when shiva is deployed. Until then, I guess out mining and fighting my competitors is the best way to dominate....
