I returned to EVE a week or so ago after a layoff of approaching 4 years. I had previously played through from 2004 to early 2007 and been an active member of a small minor trading / exploration corporation, although I can't for the life of me remember their name!
So having completed the tutorial missions to try get back up to speed with what has changed since I left, and having resumed as a Caldari (my previous incarnation - not sure why I decided to repeat that, but I guess it was that I knew the missile, sheild tank, EW game). Anyway, there I was pitching up in Perimeter to start a mission grind with salvaging (that one's new to me), to get some income together as capital for trading, when I thought I'd pop into the Recruitment Channel for a browse. Last time I played I remained a loner for about a year before joining a corporation and then realised that I gained much more enjoyment once I found an active role with like-minded players.
I was specifically looking at corporations with informative websites because they are the enterprises that clearly take the time and trouble to create a more coherent community. As soon as I loaded tti-eve.com I was engrossed and read through every page. I particularly enjoyed the 'history' page because I well recall the early years and the likes of M0o, NVA & ATUK. I'd try to follow the adventures of 0.0 corporations and alliances on the killboards and forums in those days, while quietly going about my business of earning enough to buy a CN Raven!
So why, despite being a new noob, would I like to join TTI? Well, my real life (and there's been many years of it - won't admit how many!) has been spent in running my own entreprenurial activities and I immediately associated with the underlying philosophy of TTI. And whilst intending to commit to a tangible contribution (if there can be such a thing in a virtual world), I'm also looking for genuine support and advice to accelerate my own in game development. I am especially drawn to the opportunity within TTI to carry on my own ventures within a cooperative and coherent structure of associates.
So that's about it I guess. I understand I'll have to reach a minimum of 15 days playing so will make a formal application at that time.
One last thing - if anyone is wondering about my reasons for playing EVE, leaving and then returning, it was just a matter of personal circumstance. I enjoyed it the first time round, having plenty of time available as my RL activities placed me in front of a PC all day every day, but a new business venture and a long-distance relocation meant I just couldn't really commit to the time. Now I have the business up and running successfully and have semi-retired, I couldn't resist signing up again. It was only ever going to be EVE Online, though. I can't bear elves and goblins and magic swords! And, for me, unless a game involves other real people with the emotions and unpredicability that AI just can't emulate (yet) it soons loses it's appeal.
