So old I have become a newb

Hello from Buquis Crozier.

Trying to absorb wth has happened in the last -- almost 7 years!

ATM there is no Internet connection that I can play EVE with where I now live. That should soon change. (3 - 10 months.) NTM my old EVE compy does not cut it. In fact it is dead. Anyone need an AGP 8 card? An old P4 chip? I thought not. Nor probably an ASUS P4SX8 MBoard.

Oh well. I will return. I had not realized that I was still listed here until I tried to register and couldn't reg my name. So I tried it. It worked!

At least the ISK guide will help. The maps ... What a change!

Welcome to the forums. Also, you know you can play EVE on dial-up right?

Hi!

Thank you for the information. But, A quick question. By dial up do you mean DSL/ADSL? Neither of these are available to me, at least at the moment.

If you mean "dial-up" as in 26-54K -- I can look into it. That would be very doubtful. I don't think the system analyzer at EVE would do anything but tell me an emphatic "NO!"

If I had known what the real estate agent, my wife, and especially me, had not checked when we bought this place. We would be living somewhere else.

No, I mean dial-up. It works. Of course, you wouldn't be able to download the client or large patches/expansions with dial-up. But you could buy the Commissioned Officer edition, install, then download the updates as an exe from the public library or something. But as for actually playing, EVE does play on dial-up.

Yay!!!!!!!!! There is a dial-up here -- 54k (actually they say its really 52~ ish -- limited by our friends. (Why? 4% easier for r f tmead e friends? No I do not believe in conspiracy teories. I was one.)

Unlimited access for $20. a month. As for the client, yes the Cap's ed. was the back-up plan but, I see many advantages to just doing that, as in fixing a corrupted program with lots less hassle. New plan. TY

The big hassle. Anyone with a significant other, or more than one if so inclined, can figure out the two hassles. But, they are overcone by Objectivism. Since my wife is a fervent economic and economic-political conservative, not quite Obj. as long as I can afford it -- go for it. As for time -- She works and she sleeps. There is time. I am old and retired. I no longer work and I need little sleep. :D

So, now I am down to 4 months +-

Gotta Luv it.

Things are moving! I have a new compy on order due Weds 14 Dec.

Which will be returned. The wrong one was shipped. My error. Who would guess that the build of a computer is no longer just the stock number but the color also! Black is a lot of plastic, aluminum silver means it has real aluminum surface parts. So back it goes when it gets here for a newer model, for $1 more and a better processor.

(Still) It is a notebook however as an i7, Nvidia 540m machine with 6G mem, and I can I doubt I will have problems meeting at least min specs. ASUS has never failed me, so far, so I have hopes.

TMI: I found that I have to go back to an old service provider to get dial-up. I'll rot in hell first. I do not ever forget being riped off for a few hundred bucks. Absolutly Terrible Troubles never did send me my rebate, never provided my LD service correctly and after I started paying for an International plan it refused to work for the last 2 months I was with them. NTM I had to buy out of the plan to get to a company that would actually provide all the services I pay for.

However, I found a new (within last month - nice timing) provider in the area that will provide me with 3 m download and 1.5 m up for $98 a month with $250 up front. A $400 buy out will get rid of the Sat Net (worthless - for anything but a Netbook) I have now. Another buy out. At least they were here when no one else was.

So with the Comm Officer disc on the way w/the new comp I can hop myself to the library and start my 2 accts back into training in about 2 - 3 weeks.

One main will be training to use materials to produce Tech gained from Sleeper Sites and the other main will be training to be a scanner and retiever. Since I do not atm have access to the stats of my 2 Main and 3 minor alts, I can not do anymore atm. One of the minor might just have to be upgraded in combat skills to do this.

Hunting for and gaining tech, then making it useful was what I enjoyed most. Killing rats while ice mining wasn't to bad either. It was kinda profitable when Ice first came on-line. Might be fun to see how my old Daredevil stacks up. Probably not to well. It can't cloak. It was fast, then. Then there are the 7 or so Gallente Interdictors in storage -- somewhere.

So I might, in several months be able to be worth while again in TTI if I am re-accepted. If not ... at least to tolerated in your WH space.

I expect to be rich again if I am not now. I have(?) the assets of a ship/parts manufactureing/research Corp (BCA) waiting for my return. If not, EVE is a land of opportunity for an Objective Mentality.

While reading everything I can get my hands on, as fast as I can -- I can not wrap my head around how HUGE the EVE Wiki is! I see there are more options than ever in EVE. The universe is HUGE!!!

P-VYNL (SIC) (Our old home, is almost in the center.)

So ends another long winded comm from an EVE addicted old fart. I have fallen off the wagon, again.

Things are progressing. Eve is installed in an old laptop comp. I read somewhere that the particular card in that Tohsiba was really something for a M class vid. Yhat connected with dial-up speed made me wonder if things were possible. Yup. Eve works at all minimums. there is a 1/2 second lag so it is mostly mining and some missions along with training.

The (puny rat) combat is not too bad as most of it is automated at the server. Just have think a bit about where they will be not are.

That worked well except I had to pay for the download at the computer shop. 7 hours. The first four went into an ultimatly failed instal. $10.00.

Better news is I just recieved a new ASUS i7 with a m540 nvidia card. Another $10. at the store should make EVE real pretty. As for download allowance. The new EVE just sips. I played 6 hours the other day on about 450 k. Yup, k.

The big hassle is getting out of Hughes Net. I have $190 to go on the penalty as of this month. NTM it will cost $250 plus $95 for the first 45 days of a new provider. Yuck. $535. So for the time being I am mining about 1 mil ISK a day in minerals, training 7 toons on 4 accounts -- which will be soon be 6 on two.

I have started manuf -- as of today fuel blocks. Not many yet as I have to get a decent supply trade/barter for some of the materials. Kida helped BC has over 2000 itemsw in her old corp hanger. Some wwhere over 40 ships too NTM an array of BPO/C.

That's about it from Dunraelei. (SIC?)

There was an incusion today. Gonna have to reasearch that. The AFs were really empty. Heh.
