Best of luck Anderlin.
I enjoyed responding to the application questions too. And I really enjoy the opportunity to play the game with, and get to know, like minded objectivist thinkers. It is an invigorating experience. I hope to see you in game soon.

Well since I am also applieing for a defense position I'll just piggy back on your thread
Required Information:
Handle: Alaph Force
TTI Division: Mulligan Defense
Email: -- Sent with the email application --
Age: 26
Location: South Korea
Timezone: (GMT +8 )
My story is this: Im a medic in the US Army deployed to Korea. Instead of bar hopping and cheating on my wife (this is a VERY common thing in Korea) I play online games (well game until a week ago when I started EVE). I have a degree in philosophy and my major interests where cognative psy, political theory, math theory, and eastern religions.
I am the worlds worst speller. I love to have fun but can also get into the serious mode if need be.
Well I guess thats it, hope to join your ranks and see you in game.
Cheers
[edit] Forgot to mention alaph is not a miss spelling of alpha but rather a miss spelling of aleph meaning infinity.

Awesome we have a degreed philosopher applying for membership in TTI! Welcome Alaphforce. I’ve always heard that Ayn Rand does not get much traction in the academic philosophical community. Perhaps you could provide us some insight into a few of those ivory towers!
Good choice on the gaming idea too. At least with gaming you know what you’re gonna get… and not get. There is a great WESTPAC joke that is told in the US Navy…
A sailor makes a port call in Manila, and engages in some high-risk sexual behaviors. The next day his unit is all red and feels like its burning up. He goes to sick bay and the doctor says, “I’ve never seen anything like this… We’ll have to get it checked by one of the local doctors in Ukusak, Japan when we put in there. They know more about the local diseases than I do.”
A few weeks of worsening symptoms, and finally they reach port. The seaman is off the ship in a flash, heading to the first local doctor he can find. He cries, “Doc what’s wrong with my dick !!?”
In broken English the doctor only says, “No Poblem.”
The sailor says, “Wait doc you don’t understand this thing has been getting redder everyday! Its as red as a beet now. It feels like it is on fire This is DEFINITELY a problem!”
The doctor says, “No, no... few more day, dick turn black... fall off – no poblem.”

Ok replanted the intel in its own thread, thanks.
Rand is generaly ignored in academia, Hume, Locke, Marks...these are the standard bearers. I think Rand has a kind of stigma akin to that of...drat my memory is corrupt (the religion for the movie stars, John Travolta is one of them). Anyway its seen as more shock value philosophy than deep philosophy. I haven't read it myself but if I recall the reviews I read she uses fiction to tell her story right. If so I'd just like to point out that Neitschze's grand peice of literature (as oposed to his discources) were veiwed as pure drivel. And if you want a grand look at economical/political philosophy/fiction look at any book by George Orwell. Deep philosophy but never treated as such.

I love Wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Objectivist_philosophy
Also from a wiki page
"Many academic philosophers criticize Rand not only for her sweeping denouncements of academic philosophers, but also for her practice of explicating her philosophy in popular fiction, rather than publishing in peer-reviewed journals."
So that supports my previous statement. *breethes sigh of reliefe* thought I was talken out my tush for a moment there lol

I was at Humphreys in '91 and '99. Not a bad place (all things considered). I'll see you in game and we can compare notes.
