What if humans became grossly larger than they currently are

My grandfather told me when i was a child that he was taller then his father, and then his children are all taller then he is, and that I'd probably be bigger then my father (his son). He then began to explain that if he lived long enough he'd see humans get larger then dinasours.
What if we did get larger? What if our size was directly related to diet, and the better our diet got, the larger we'd grow, and the larger our children would grow? Some nations, like Italy, who eat really good food would just become Giants, how would this effect our current world?
