If our form of communication became so advanced that we could communicate with our thoughts, what would this do to our current world?

I don't know about the rest of the world, but I would get slapped alot.

More seriously, it would depend on whether we could could control who heard our thoughts. If we could not, then everyone would be afraid to go out in public. Society as a whole would break down.

If we could control who heard us, then language would become meaningless, since ideas could just as easily be expressed with images, rather then words. This would eliminate a lot of miscommunication, which would be good in some instances, and bad in others (when you need to tell a small lie to save someones feelings).

Overall, I do not think it would be good, because I know that I for one, would not want most people to know what I really think, and I probably don't really want to know what they think of me.

If telepathy were main form of communication.. I dont think anyone would be in a relationship, lol. Although you might imagine something, think something, that doesnt mean you'll go ahead and do it. For example, I've imagined what it would be like to beat the shit out of one of my friends when I was mad at him, but I didnt do it. If I had said that I was gonna to it too him, that amounts to assault in UK law. So everytime I thought about hitting/killing someone when I was really mad, does that mean I need to be charged with assault every time?
