Yes, I know it sounds odd, but give the article a chance. It takes a little bit of reading to the decent stuff

Great article! I've bookmarked it and will be sending it to friends, especially those I've always considered monkeys.
I especially liked the bit about sympathy, how the mere application of random facts about another human being instantly draws them closer to your 'monkeysphere' and, thus, tugs on sympathy strings. That connection (random facts = sympathy) was interesting, and it was explained within the scope of his thesis very well.

If you can count your money, you don't have enough.
Monkey Sphere
This monkey sphere thing kinda sticks in the back of your mind. I read it a couple of weeks ago and enjoyed the novelty of it. Over that time, I found myself reflecting upon it. It is a very interesting perspective.
We can infer alot, if we as humans are hard-wired capacity for say 150 (mas o menos) social connections. Maybe that's why I am not very talented at remembering names! I sent it to a buddy that's locked up in prison (DUI). The guys in the joint loved it. Think about what kind of monkey sphere they've got...
(/street vendor in a trench coat, pulls up his sleeve) "Hey man! You wanna buy a monkey sphere ?"

Damn rightConversely, some people in the distant past naively thought they could sit all of the millions of monkeys down and say, "okay, everybody go pick the bananas, then bring them here, and we'll distribute them with a complex formula determining banana need! Now go gather bananas for the good of society!" For the monkeys it was a confused, comical, tree-humping disaster.
HehThis is perhaps how Ayn Rand would have put it, had she not been such a hateful bitch.
I can't deal with that :-sSo take the amount you think you know, reduce it by 99.999%, and then you'll have an idea of how much you actually know regarding things outside your Monkeysphere. Once you accept this you can no longer smirk over other people just because you think they're morons.
