Tit-for-tat is a very solid strategy for the iterated prisoner's dilemma, but what later tournaments showed is that it's a non-transient problem, ie scissors-paper-stone. There's no perfect strategy as there's always one that can beat any other, even if you end up going in a loop. Interesting stuff though.
