Is TTI for me? Applying and asking for opinions.

TTI is known for its intellectuals. This is a place for thinkers to gather and exchange quotes, thoughts, or other topics that might not appeal to the average gamer.

Is TTI for me? Applying and asking for opinions.

Post by Darius Brinn »

First things first, let's do this properly:

EVE character - Darius Brinn
Your preferred nick/name - Brinn
TTI Division (or major occupation if unsure) - D'Anconia Mining
Your (approximate) age - 28
Timezone in the world - Central European, GMT+1

1) What are your unique characteristics that set you apart from most people? (your views, achievements, etc):

I am in the best period of my life. I have a demanding and rewarding job, I have a family of my own, and I haven't stopped educating myself after getting my Degree (molecular biology). Thanks to this I have just recently set up a small business that is steadily growing up, and I hope to devote all my time to it within a few years. Just recently bought a big house and things are looking pretty good for me. I am hardworking and reliable, seize oportunities and I'm never satisfied with my prowess, always striving for more. At the same time, I don't exactly need to be rich, as I take pleasure in simple things in life. Playing with my daughter, a good glass of Scotch, a good book or a metal song and I'm all smiles.

I am a native Spaniard, by the way. So GMT+1 for me. I like the name "Brinn", which I always choose for my characters. I didn't know what it meant (it's Swedish for "BURN!") until I was told when playing another MMORPG.

2) Why are you playing EVE?

I'm an avid videogame player...or at least I was until real life struggles and family responsabilities syphoned most of my daily hours. I have quit World of Warcraft because I simply couldn't keep up. I came across EVE and learned that players advance even when logged off, thus making ISK the only difference between active players and casuals. Furthermore, skilled and organized players can determine their fortune and eventually do better than more active players that don't know what they're doing. It is my intention to squeeze EVE out of all it can offer to me in the little hours I have availiable for online gaming.

3) Why are you applying to Taggart?

I see the mature approach and touch it has, and while not completely agreeing with all of Ayn Rand's ideas, I do however subscribe her general principles. I am thrilled by success and self-empowering, hard work and its rewards. I expect no free lunches, merely cooperation for the common good and friendship. I don't pest veterans with constant demands or questions, and I consider myself helpful and reliable. I would change my plans for corp operations, and I would walk the extra mile to help corp mates, simply because their adhering to their philosophy means they can walk on their own. I help people who help themselves, and I help myself.

I've researched about the game. Skills. Piloting. Combat. Improving my margins, wasting less time, having more fun. I am a 1.5 million SP newbie, but my Destroyer tears up through lvl 1 missions, and my Retriever + fitting is already bought and waiting. I expect to be able to take a few test runs in it today or tomorrow. Today I finish Industry V and start Mining barge (bought already), so it depends on how much time I need to go through Mining barge III.

I'm loyal and despise pirates. I am not paranoid in the strict sense of the word, but will not get caught off guard. I've chosen my career (mining) for personal reasons and will only marginally train my combat skills for mission running and corp operations. Still, I am a miner at heart, and getting minerals for the industry is what I like.

By the way, I am fiercely Gallente. Lore-wise, they're the most interesting race. A beacon of freedom in a Universe full of religious madmen and burocratic maniacs. Perfect set-up for an independent pilot.

So far I have stand on my own, bought all my ships and fittings myself, and rejected so many corp invitations that I usually turn "auto-reject" on.

Do you think TTI is for me? I have little time to play and will definitely stay close to my starting region for some weeks (Verge Vendor) until I can work on my standings a bit, but I could do with some conversation every now and then... and more customers for my amazingly priced ores.

In either case, cheers to all of you for an original concept nicely developed. I wish you all good luck and a 20-figure ISK balance.

I received it now. Thank you.

I already followed the next step, but I am unsure whether you received it. It got stuck in my outbox, and does not appear in the "sent" folder.

Could you confirm the reception, please?

Regards,

Brinn.

Finally! Another person who gets the Gallente. I feel like a lone voice amongst all the Caldari fans in TTI!

(Yeah, I play an Amarr. Blame my fascination with LASERS!)

Really? Thank you very much. Took much less than I expected.

Yes, I'm Gallente for life. The only race that appeals to me. Democracy sure beats being lost like the Minmatar, being a religious zealot like the Amarr or being generally nuts like these Caldari chaps and their corporativism.

I'll progress through the game as fast as I can. When I make it into the Hulk, I'll see to moving into wherever that Rorqual of yours is operating, Oleksandr.

So far my mining and trading has improved considerably. I've found nice and unexploited Plagioclase spots in High sec, and trained myself in Refining V, Plagioclase refining III and Refinery efficiency rank II, and now I can sell the minerals for much more than the ore. In fact, I've found two places within 5 jumps where a few guys buy HUGE amounts of Mexallon at wonderful prices.

Merely using my Retriever (+ 2 expanded cargoholds II) to haul a bit of my Mexallon to those places netted me almost 10 million in 5 minutes. Not bad for a 1.6M SP character. I'll invest more time into my refining skills and hurry up with the Covetor/Hulk training as soon as I'm done with all the Learnings to lvl IV (just a few to go). In the end, it'll pay off, and I already have all the advanced books, too. 4.5M ISK a piece, so it stung a bit.

So, having tons of fun. Not much time to play, but definitely using it well. When I'm in my Hulk and refining like mad, I'll train Cruisers, I guess.

You should probably look into tash-murkon because there is Kernite there. Also, there is a bigger beast called Dythius there. He does 3-6 ship mining ops and melts entire systems, and is always looking for more people do mine with.

Some useful links:
http://www.fluidorbit.co.uk/
This is good for finding what you want to mine.

This site outlines ore refining amounts, and average profits.

If Tolmart doesn't have it in stock, you get a free shuttle!
(Must be something with a BPO cost of less than 20 mil. One shuttle a day and per an item.)

Hi Brinn, and welcome to TTI!

Contact Dythius in-game about anything mining related. We are always looking for more retrievers/hulks to take advantage of his mining command modules, as well as haulers. Our operation generally run weekdays 5 PM to 1 AM GMT (give or take a couple of hours).

I do not personally participate in any of the mining (Dythius runs it while I am at work).
Our crew consists of:
-Dythius, mining forman, running command modules and hauling
-Railed, Veldspar destroyer, frequently on break
-Gullack (Dythius' alt. Corp member), mining, Refining master
-Apixx (friends account, currently not playing), mining, Lazy
-Rei Sakurai (my alt, trial account still), hauling, mining

One piece of advice, get your Iteron V with the best cargo expanders. Good investment.

Anyways, cheers!
