TTI is known for its intellectuals. This is a place for thinkers to gather and exchange quotes, thoughts, or other topics that might not appeal to the average gamer.

EVE character - Torvald Harderode
Your preferred nick/name - Torvald
TTI Division (or major occupation if unsure) - D'Anconia Mining (?)
Your (approximate) age - 30
Timezone in the world - US Eastern, GMT-5

1) What are your unique characteristics that set you apart from most people? (your views, achievements, etc):

I am not so good at talking about myself. I've had a lot of good things happening to me in life, starting from my parents and now a family of my own. I believe that there are a lot of opportunities for each and every person, which present themselves as you get ready for them. And it is up to an individual to shape himself and the world around in the most beneficial way.

I come from a provincial city in Russia, studied in Moscow and now live and work in Boston. I am a software engineer developing quantitative analysis software for financial companies. I have a strong, if fading, background in mathematics and science, and have a mostly optimistic outlook on how progress will shape the future.

2) Why are you playing EVE?

I like playing "development" games, where the objective is to build or grow something, be it a civilization, which was my first favorite computer game or a character.

I enjoy developing and improving things and processes and get fascinated by optimization problems.

Another aspect I like about EVE is that character can advance even off-line, making it less of a mindless time-sink and more of a game where intelligence, skill and right decisions can get you ahead. I do not have a whole lot of time to spend online due to family and work commitments, but I am trying to make the most of it.

3) Why are you applying to Taggart?

I see Taggart as different from most other corporations advertising on Recruitment channel. It stands out as a mature group that has a definite direction and knows what it is doing, which I respect. I am not really familiar with objectivism and Ayn Rand's works, but the initial impression seems to be in alignment with my own views.

I am looking for a corporation with knowledgeable, friendly and mature people working together for mutual benefit. At the moment I am doing mostly mining, but I am interested in research and manufacturing as well. Ultimately, I want to build and manage a starbase.

I consider myself fairly successful for my character's age, expanding my solo mining and refining operations. But I feel that my efforts would be much more effective if combined with those of smart and like-minded people.

So best luck to you in your enterprise, and please let me know if you would be interested in working together.

The most important criteria for being in TTI is the philosophy of objectivism. Objectivism is very different from from the more conventional philosophies; many beliefs that are common place are incompatible with objectivsm. If you are unfamilar with objectivism, you probably won't do well on our entrance quiz. Don't take it personally; we simply want to recruit like-minded people. However, if you've found some of our corporate philosophy "interesting," you owe it to yourself to read the book Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. If you love the book, you'll do much better on the application. If you don't like the book, you'll really not want to be in our corp, anyway.

Kushan,
I learned about Objectivism as a philosophy only after seeing TTI advertisement. And read Rand like 4 month later after joining. I'm here for more then year now, and corp fits perfectly to me.
It doesn't really matters if you recognize yourself as Objectivist. Overview of philosophy on the home page is enough to make your mind on whether you agree to it, or not. Anyway, the application will show it.

Good luck with the app, Torvald.

Not to worry, I do not keep account of such items, but forward them to the Department of Treasury ;-)

I do think that we can get along fine, whether within TTI or outside.

I've just read your app, Torvald and you are already an objectivist, you just haven't read the manual yet. :)
