TTI is known for its intellectuals. This is a place for thinkers to gather and exchange quotes, thoughts, or other topics that might not appeal to the average gamer.
This one is a special book for musashi! It is that book I've mentioned that talks about how to properly arrive to absolutes.
Product Description
A groundbreaking solution to the problem of induction, based on Ayn Rand's theory of concepts.
Inspired by and expanding on a series of lectures presented by Leonard Peikoff, David Harriman presents a fascinating answer to the problem of induction-the epistemological question of how we can know the truth of inductive generalizations.
Ayn Rand presented her revolutionary theory of concepts in her book Introduction to Objectivist Epistemology. As Dr. Peikoff subsequently explored the concept of induction, he sought out David Harriman, a physicist who had taught philosophy, for his expert knowledge of the scientific discovery process.
Here, Harriman presents the result of a collaboration between scientist and philosopher. Beginning with a detailed discussion of the role of mathematics and experimentation in validating generalizations in physics-looking closely at the reasoning of scientists such as Galileo, Kepler, Newton, Lavoisier, and Maxwell-Harriman skillfully argues that the inductive method used in philosophy is in principle indistinguishable from the method used in physics.
About the Author
David Harriman worked as a physicist for the U.S. Department of Defense and taught philosophy at California State University, San Bernardino. He recently founded the Falling Apple Science Institute, a nonprofit that promotes science education.

"Objectivism is not only true, it is great! Why? Because of the volitional work a mind must have performed to reach for the first time so exalted a level of truth—and because of all the glorious effects such knowledge will have on man’s life, all the possibilities of action it opens up for the future." -- Leonard Peikoff
I’ll be looking for it in the summer (July 6th). Good beach reading?
David Harriman is an interesting cat Physicist/Philosopher! Hard science and philosophy used to be directly linked back in the 18th and 19th centuries. In our modern times the two areas are generally not linked. It will be interesting to read the book and see how Harriman can rejoin the two.
To really nail it I think Harriman will have to be on his “A game” for both Philosophy and Science. Flawed premises in either area would be a major fail (like say the Gravity analogy we’ve already discussed). And a fail would be a minor set back for Peikoff too. I wonder if they have a trusted panel of expert editors on this project? Ultimately I think a book like this could help me – I’d like to see it succeed.
Keep your sharpened steel sword, this wooden one will be all I need!
This is something I'm interested in at the moment. I've had difficulty dealing with several friends recently because of the topic of absolutes. It would be nice to have some additional logical and scientific evidence to back my claims of absolute mechanisms.
If you want to get started you don't need to wait on the book. David Harriman has a number of articles on this topic already at The Objective Standard:
"Objectivism is not only true, it is great! Why? Because of the volitional work a mind must have performed to reach for the first time so exalted a level of truth—and because of all the glorious effects such knowledge will have on man’s life, all the possibilities of action it opens up for the future." -- Leonard Peikoff
